What is the Difference Between a Pillowtop and a Plush Top
What is the Difference Between a Pillow Top and a Plush Top?
I get asked this nearly every day by customers:
Short Answer: Not much!
Longer Explanation
Both quilted covers are made from exactly the same quilting materials. The difference is in how we "finish" the build.
Plush Top (Also Known as Tight Top)
- Fabric on top is stitched directly into our zipper system
- Quilting materials are pulled tight, creating a firmer feel
- Despite the name, plush tops are generally firmer than pillow tops
- Often preferred by those who want a supportive, slightly firmer mattress
Pillow Top
- Has a spacer (or gusset) between the top fabric and our zipper system
- Quilting materials stay relaxed, resulting in a softer feel
- More materials and additional labor make it slightly more expensive
-
Ideal for sleepers looking for extra cushioning and a plush surface
Pillow Top vs. Plush Top: Quick Comparison
Feature | Plush Top (Tight Top) | Pillow Top |
---|---|---|
Firmness | Firmer | Softer |
Quilting Finish | Pulled tight | Relaxed |
Cost | More affordable | Slightly higher due to extra material |
Best For | Back & stomach sleepers | Side sleepers & those needing more cushioning |
Which One is Right for You?
If you prefer a firmer, more supportive feel, go with a plush (tight) top. If you love a softer, cushioned surface, a pillow top is your best bet.
